Options Were Few for Oceana Pilots
 The
F/A-18D crash became instant international news, mostly for the complete
lack of fatalities in the densely populated area and little time to react. ADM John
C. Harvey ’73, USN commander of U.S. Fleet Forces, said during a news conference that
he was surprised the crash had not claimed any lives and that he hoped to “keep
this amazing miracle going.” Captain Mark Weisgerber, USN, deputy commander of Strike
Fighter Wing Atlantic,
quickly held a press conference.

Q&A With Cindy Timchal, NCAA’s Winningest Lacrosse Coach
 She’s in her fifth
season with Navy Women’s Lacrosse, has won almost every game this season and is
the NCAA’s all-time leader in career wins (394) for any division, in men’s or women’s
college lacrosse.
Cindy recently sat down with our sports writer, Gary Lambrecht, to discuss
her career path, tough lessons and roots.

Class of 2001 Marine Honored on St. Patrick’s Day
 Fellow Marines
paid tribute to their fallen brother, 1stLt Ronald Winchester ’01, USMCR, during
his hometown’s St. Patrick’s Day parade in Rockville Centre, NY. The hard chargers
of 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, were presented with an award on 20 April for
participating in the 9th annual parade
that honored Winchester, who died in combat in 2004. He was further honored
when the parade committee donated to the Semper Fi Fund in his name. Thanks to the
alumni from multiple classes who were present.

rate for returning veterans transitioning out of military life is a staggering 11%,
almost 30% higher than the rest of the country. NBC News and the U.S. Chamber of
Commerce hope to change this with their initiative
Hiring Our Heroes. They recently transformed the USS INTREPID into a floating
job fair for veterans.
