We Are Ready For Dublin!
35,000 Americans are expected to descend upon Dublin for the Navy vs. Notre Dame game this year. If you’re one of them, click here for our full schedule of events from pep rallies to pub crawls. If you are watching from the sofa, we will be updating you via Facebook and Twitter during the many days of festivities. CBS will air the game on 1 September—kickoff is at 9 am, so prep for Irish coffee. Need tickets? Unloading tickets? Visit our ticket exchange. GO NAVY!!!

Meet Romulus the Robo Sub
He has sonar capability and a new doppler velocity log, but mostly he’s just pretty darn cute. Meet Romulus and the Academy AUV team that makes him go.

Parent Videos of Pics and Plebes
It’s not just plebes who share the glory of a difficult summer. Parents suffer too. So we like to ease their pain by creating a new photo program to give them access to images of their plebe going through the paces of their long, hot summer at the Academy. Then we celebrate those who have come before with a Legacy Parents Reception at Historic Ogle Hall.

Academy is Not a Party School
The Princeton Review is taking another year to state the obvious: military schools don't make the party-school list. In their 2013 edition of "The Best 377 Colleges,"the Naval Academy ranks at the top of the Stone Cold Sober list. The book went on sale 21 August.

Vote for Your Favorites
In the July/Aug issue of Shipmate we asked for your “Best Of” nominations (best class prank, best Supe, best Army-Navy shenanigans, etc.). If you have not voted, get the voter form and mail or email us your votes. The deadline has been extended to 15 September, so vote early and often.

Rothwell ’36 Honored
Silver Star recipient Colonel Richard Rothwell ’36, USMC (Ret.), one of the last battalion commanders (age 99) who landed under enemy fire on the Japanese Island of Iwo Jima on D-Day, passed away last May and was recently remembered with salutes and heartfelt goodbyes from family and the Marine Corps. We had the honor of interviewing him about his experience in Iwo Jima last January.

You Don’t Know What You Don’t Know
It dawned on Ingar Grev ’89 recently while he was with fellow alumni visiting the Academy that what people know about him is not what there really is to know … even though it is not a secret. He has translated this conundrum into a business philosophy that will help us get more in tune with where the truth lies and helps us ask the right questions.

New Corps Campaign
The Marines, at one time, said they were looking for “a few good men.” That’s the old Marines. Captain Monica Meese ’05, USMC, represents the newer Corps and will be front and center on web videos airing soon to represent what minorities and women can do in today’s Marines. She became a pilot and flew KC-130Js in two deployments in Kandahar. Now she’s piloting a Gulfstream 550 for the likes of the SECNAV, CNO and Commandant of the Marine Corps.

Reconnect and Make a Difference
President's Circle members H.B. Smith '83 and his wife Cindy discuss how supporting the Naval Academy keeps you connected, while it also supports the Brigade of Midshipmen. “It’s your school and you make a difference.” Watch the video here.

Homecoming Golf 2012
The Thursday Scramble on 18 October is SOLD OUT. However, the Championship Round on Friday, 19 October is still open and no handicap is necessary. Proceeds benefit USNA golf team. To find out more and register online, click here. See you at the Naval Academy Golf Club!

His Chinese Counterpart
Former Brigade Commander Ensign Jordan Foley ’12 spent International Week at the Dalian Naval Academy in China last year with then  Ensign William Henry ’12, very shined shoes, Mandarin skills, and the desire to make a good impression. There may have been a small adjustment period, but in the end, Foley swapped notes with their equivalent of Brigade Commander and found plenty of common ground.
