Message From the Naval Academy Foundation Chairman
 In response to the release
of the inspector general report and allegations concerning gift-funds, Vice Admiral
John R. Ryan ’67, USN (Ret.), has
issued a statement about how the Foundation will
respond.

I-Day
 After they took the Oath of
Office on 1 July, 1,247 from the new class of 2014 dove into Induction Day and six
weeks of Plebe Summer looking a bit tired. About 17,000 applied for admission this
year. 984 men and 263 women from 10 countries
made the cut.

Dobbs Has His Day
 Midshipman Ricky Dobbs '11,
2009 starting quarterback and vice president of his class, has already been to the
White House, broke the rushing record and had fans hyping him as a Heisman candidate.
It is no wonder his hometown of Douglasville, GA, would want to
pay tribute.

Pilots "Hook Up"
 Lieutenant Jeff McLean '04,
USN, flies an F/A-18 Super Hornet. His wife, Captain Christine McLean, USAF, pilots
a KC-135 Stratotanker refueling plane. They met in the air over Pakistan for a very
different sort of reunion.

SEALs in Philadelphia Rescue Duck Boat Crash Victims
 While Norfolk-based Special
Warfare Combatant crewman were in Mark V boats on the Delaware River, just visiting
Philadelphia for Navy Appreciation Day, they were
first on the scene and
rescued nine victims from the duck boat that collided with a barge.

This May be THE Hottest
 USNA alumni seem to believe
that their plebe summer was the hottest ever on record. The Class of 2014 might
be winners though. Maryland has been battling record-breaking temperatures this
July, with heat indexes reading up to 110 degrees, which is not conducive to
running endurance courses.

Academy Sails Newport Bermuda Race and Onion Patch
 S/V Swift (Destroyer's
Atlantic Trophy winner), Flirt and Invictus, the Academy's newly-donated TP52, all
competed in the Newport Bermuda offshore race and the
Onion Patch Series in Bermuda, all making the offshore team and fans very
proud of their performance.

Rear Admiral Katherine Gregory '82, CEC, USN, First to Command
 On 9 July, Rear
Admiral Kate Gregory became the first female
CEC flag officer as commander of NAVFAC Pacific. She was promoted to Rear
Admiral 1 June, the first female CEC officer in the history of the Navy to attain
this rank.

Royal Navy Sea Harrier in 2006. Now the former Marine test pilot travels
to air shows and says "there is no work experience more enjoyable."
