Much has been said about the SEALs and their well-executed raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound. You may not know that Admiral Eric Olson ’73, USN, the still-active-duty SEAL and leader of the U.S. Special Operations Command, trained that team.

By now, everyone has read about the burial at sea given to bin Laden. It happened aboard USS CARL VINSON (C/O is Captain Bruce H. Lindsey ’82, USN, and X/O is Commander Putnam H. Browne ’90, USN), and the video of the ceremony may be released.

RADM Breckenridge ’82 Bonds with Chicago Students
Rear Admiral Richard P. Breckenridge ’82, USN, deputy director, Submarine Warfare Division, visited Chicago to participate in the Hyman G. Rickover Leadership Series with high school and college students to discuss leadership and the Navy’s Nuclear Propulsion Program.

From Underdog to Astronaut
First Lieutenant Zerbin Singleton ’08, USMC, came from a very difficult background, to say the least. He always wanted to be an astronaut and is well on his way. During a recent appearance on CNN he tells how he made it to the Academy to become a marine aviator despite everything that stood in his way.

USO Honors RADM Michelle Howard ’82
At the 45th annual USO Women of the Year luncheon in New York City Rear Admiral Michelle Howard ’82, USN, was recognized for her outstanding leadership and Navy career.

16th Company Saving the Bay
As part of Save the Bay Day activities around Maryland, 36 members of 16th Company headed to Lake Waterford Park in Pasadena, MD, to plant, clean, fix, rake and spiff up the park, even finding and removing a bathtub from the lake. ‘‘It felt the same way as when the Navy is helping other nations,” said the team’s leader.

One SWIFT Trip
The USNA Oceanography Department and 10 midshipmen are on a summer training event named Severe Weather In-Field Training (SWIFT) in the Midwest from 13-28 May, beginning at Fort Campbell, KY where they met up with some U.S. Air Force Operational Weather Forecasters. Follow them on Facebook.
