of the Marine Corps and Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps present the 236th Marine
Corps birthday message and honor the 10th anniversary of the September 11th attacks
and the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor and how the events shaped
the lives of Marines past and present.

Plebe Starter Beats the Odds
Not only is Chris
Ferguson ’15 a plebe starter for Navy football, he also has surmounted incredible
odds fighting against Guillain-Barre syndrome that began when he was in second grade.
He went from a wheelchair to a walker to crutches as a kid. Now
he’s a starting safety, intercepting, tackling and taking charge.

Class of 1995 Honors Fallen Alumni During the Marine Corps Marathon
Run
To Honor 2011: Hundreds gathered to honor fallen shipmates and their
families by running in the
MCM/10K in DC or
attending the Memorial Dinner.
More than 35 honoree family members attended the dinner, touched by the presence
and support from so many alumni, family and friends.

Jeffrey Immelt’s Forrestal Address
In October,
Jeffrey R. Immelt, chairman of General Electric and a member of the
board of the Ronald Reagan Foundation, addressed the midshipmen about the lessons
and successes of President Reagan’s military expansion and leadership as part of
the celebration of the centennial of Reagan's birth.

A Veteran Meets His Good Samaritans
Joe Carlson was
riding his motorcycle on a Saturday morning on his way to the Colorado Springs Veterans
Day Parade when all of a sudden he was lying on the ground in the middle of the
interstate. He hit a deer. Several strangers rushed to his aid. Two of them were
Midshipmen. They were reunited
soon after.

Last October,
the Navy Judo team competed in and decisively won the
Ken Tamai Memorial Judo Tournament in Beltsville, MD. Several mids had standout
performances: Joeseph Girani ’12 took 1st place in the light heavyweight division;
Aaron Van Driessche ’13 took 1st in the 161 lb. division and 2nd in the 178 lb.
division; Yechan Kim ’14 took 2nd at 161 lbs.; Elias Cabrera ’13 took 3rd at 161
lbs.

Q&A with the New Basketball Coach
Ed
DeChellis has rebuilt men’s basketball programs at Penn State and East
Tennessee State over the past 15 years. Now the 19th coach in Navy basketball history,
DeChellis plans to do the same in Annapolis where the Midshipmen are trying to win
their first Patriot League title and reach their first NCAA tournament since 1998.

Academy Glee Club have in common? They will all be in Macy’s 85th Annual
Thanksgiving Day Parade. The midshipmen will perform on the famous red star
outside of the store.
