Brothers In Arms
 1stLt Travis Manion
'04, USMC, and LT Brendan Looney '04, USN, were classmates, company mates (18th)
and roommates, becoming as close as brothers. One went to Iraq, the other to Afghanistan.
Both were killed in action and have just been laid to rest side-by-side in Arlington
National Cemetery.

 Football players
are presumed to enroll in classes named "Rocks for Jocks" and "Underwater Basket
Weaving". Not so at the Naval Academy. To see what academic rigors his players endured
off the field, Coach Ken sent his coaching staff out with his players
to attend classes like thermodynamics and chemistry.

A Real Reality Show
 Not long ago,
Bob Socci from the athletic department encountered a farewell between a young woman
in fatigues and her family at nearby BWI Airport, making the reality of the Academy
and the level of commitment each mid offers to his or her country
really sink in.

Mids are Kickin' It
 Both the men's
and women's soccer teams are going through transitions this year, losing some key
players and building a youthful team into a Division I contender. Some coaches are
new, some are seasoned Navy sports vets, but everyone is
raring for successful seasons.

The Navy Turns 235
 On 10 October,
the Navy celebrated a big birthday. Back in 1775 it all began with two ships, 10
guns and 80 sailors. Things have changed quite a bit since. ADM Mike Mullen '68,
USN, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff,
wrote birthday wishes to Navy Sailors, vets and civilians.

Run to Honor
 The
Run to Honor organization will host their annual dinner event in Annapolis
on 29 October in honor of fallen Naval Academy alumni at the
Loews Hotel. This effort is headed up by Jeff Webb '95 and Giovanna Kostrubala
'95. The running events are on Sunday, 31 October, in DC.
