Gospel Choir Black History Month Concert

The U.S. Naval Academy Gospel Choir will be performing a concert for Black History Month Sunday, 27 February at 4 p.m. in the Academy's Main Chapel. Tickets for the event are $18 and can be purchased by calling the USNA Music and Theatre Box Office at 410-293-TIXS (8497).

U.S. News Rankings

The U.S. Naval Academy has been ranked the "most popular institution of higher education in the country" (based on the percentage of accepted applicants who enroll at an institution – the Academy was 85.5%) and 16th overall nationally by U.S. News & World Report, right next to West Point.

Cyber Security On the Air

The DorobekINSIDER has begun a radio series talking to the leaders at the government teaching institutions. Last month, Andrew Phillips, Academic Dean and Provost at the Naval Academy, discussed how cyber security courses will be more fully integrated into the curriculum. He's Not In Our Database, But …

… it appears the character LCDR Steve McGarrett on CBS's revival of "Hawaii Five-0" is an Academy grad. WaveTops secretly knew this all along – the character is a highly decorated former SEAL in many scenes wearing a blue rim while reading Shipmate as he chases evildoers.

Stockdale Survey

The Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership needs Naval Academy alumni to participate in a study it is conducting. The results will be used to directly improve the ethical development of the midshipmen. Please consider taking a few minutes to fill out the survey.

Midshipman Natalie Logan '11 has been selected as a Mentor of the Year by the Volunteer Center for Anne Arundel County. Logan was honored at the 2011 Mentoring Awards ceremony last month in Annapolis.

If you're sitting on a stack of old Shipmate magazines that your spouse doesn't appreciate, we've got a solution! In 2013 Shipmate will celebrate its 75th year in publication. We plan to digitally archive every issue and make them all available online by our anniversary. If you'd like to donate any issues to the cause, please inventory them and email shipmate@usna.com.
